Alien design #5 "Slughawk"
Closely related to the leafwing[link] . What sets it differently is that this group is carnivorous, hence the name "slughawk". It's got a beak, similar to the mandibles of my previous submissions like the deathjaw. It's got 3 pairs of side mandibles helping it to grab, chew, and swallow. Otherwise, it's exactly like the leafwing. Slughawks are usually larger than them. Wingspans of these species range 7-20 feet from tip to base.
It's got spines tipped with claws that are meant to grab and crawl on trees. It has exorbitant detail behind it's compound eyes. It's very sight-oriented, moreso than the leafwing which mostly relies on ecolocation.
Usually the wings are shorter but broader than the leafwing species, gives it more flexibility and less noise when hunting through deep-forested areas. However, these guys are worldwide and are adapted to their habitats.
